Monday Make-Itz

Tomorrow is already May 1st!
Why not revive an old tradition of making May Day Baskets and delivering them to friends and family. Perhaps someone in an extended care facility would appreciate a pick-me-up.
These could be as simple as a paper bag filled with goodies or as elaborate as a fancy basket filled with flowers.

Please share a pix of your May Day basket.

Saturday Sayinz

“To the outside world we all grow old, but not to brothers and sisters.  We know each other as we always were.  We know each others hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys.  We live outside the touch of time.”

"Chicken Soup for Sisters"  by Clara Ortega
(Thank you to my sister-in-law Carol for sharing this. )

Tuesday Tipz

When you organize your crafting area,
think how you use your supplies.
Put the supplies you use the most closest to your work area.
For example, if you use your markers each time you craft, then put them in a pretty basket on your work table.
This will save you time and effort gathering all of your supplies for your projects.

Monday Make Itz

Does your Stampin’ Up!®  blender pen need to be refreshed?
Instead of throwing it away, use the following recipe:

1/4 teaspoon rubbing alcohol
2 teaspoons glycerin (can be found at drugstores)
4 teaspoons distilled water ( this is important since tap water has impurities)

Blend together. (Recipe can be doubled)
Take nibs off of ends of pens, there is a felt like tube inside, either pour the mixture in this or put mixture in a shallow container and put the pen in to soak it up. More than one pen can be refreshed this way.
Of course the pens aren't like brand new, but this does a decent job of refreshing the pen.

Thursday Treatz

A dear friend and I were chatting about what to have for supper since most days we cook for one or two.
I started to think about the 'go-to' meals I've planned throughout the years after my home started to empty out.
(I guesstimated that in the last 36 years, I've planned and cooked over 10,000 meals!)

Here are a few, please add your go-to meals to the list!

taco salad
breakfast for supper-especially omelets
tomato soup/ grilled cheese
anything in the crock pot
jumbalaya (great recipe I will share in a future post)
grill out different types of meat over the weekend to microwave during the week

Calendars!
It's not too early to plan for 2013.

Every year since my oldest went into the Air Force, I have been making a calendar for him noting important dates.  As his siblings left home, they received their own calendars. Now it is a yearly Christmas gift and one that would be greatly missed if not made.
Some years I actually scrapbooked the pages, others I just embellished a pre-made calendar. The last few years I have taken their dad's photography and had the calendars printed. Some years I have a theme, last year was scenes from Tennessee. This year I have decided on Waterfalls of Tennessee. So, we have  taken some photo safaris to find twelve different waterfalls. My sore feet reminded me that I forgot how many rocks grow in Tennessee, but well worth the effort.

There are many websites and stores where you can download your own pix and dates and they will do the printing. Since I am now making more than one calendar, I find this to be the most efficient way to fill my gift list.

Below are some pictures I took on our last safari. While I will use the photographer's photos for the calendar, I wanted to share the beautiful Tennessee scenery.

We were also looking for Mountain Laurel, my favorite wildflower. We are about one week too early to see the bushes in full bloom.

Tuesday Tipz

If you are looking for a t-shirt in a special color, don't forget to look in the craft aisles at big box or craft stores.
Most have t-shirts in adult and child sizes at very good prices, usually less than in the clothing area.
There are many ways to embellish a t-shirt, or just leave it plain!

Friday Funnyz

Howdy Y'all,
I decided to add another topic--Friday Funnyz! I love to laugh and find humor in the oddest places, so I hope these will bring a smile to your TGIFs.
We recently moved from the mid-west, having lived at the same address for 17 years. With an agronomist, horticulturist/landscape designer and architect in the family you can imagine that my yard and landscaping was in tip top shape. Our newer southern home is gorgeous with an outstanding view from the patio, but the yard needed some sprucing up.  So..... I put my creative juices to work and came up with this:

I call this Flamingo Isle! It's out in the middle of the yard  (it's actually leftover from an above ground pool.) I planted purple wave petunias in the flower pot, so they should spill over onto the platform.
For those who know us, we have had  veggie gardens that take up the whole back yard, all the way down to raised bed gardens. In this picture, we have DOWNSIZED!!!!
This is called a salsa garden--the plants will grow to make the ingredients for salsa, a gift from the newlyweds to the oldyweds. I found the sign while unpacking garden supplies.
This is my view from the patio. If I could add sound, you would hear the rooster going through puberty trying to crow and the donkey putting in his two cents. It all makes me laugh out loud! If it did the same for you, please let me know, it will make my day!
ENJOY!

Monday Make-Itz on Wednesday

Greetingz crafterz!
If you love tote bags as much as I do, you will do a happy dance for today's Make-Itz. This idea is from www.marthastewart.com, but I have seen other ideas on the web as well.
Find your rag bag-o-tees and make a tote!
   The possibilities are endless.
Let me know what you will carry in your new tote bag!

T-Shirt Bag

Heavy-weight cotton T-shirt
Pins
Sewing machine
Medium-size bowl
Water-erasable marking pen
Scissors

T-Shirt Bag How-To1. Turn T-shirt inside out and pin bottom of the T-shirt along the hem. Using a sewing machine, sew bottom of T-shirt closed. Flip shirt right side out and lay flat on table, making sure all seams are lined up.

2. Place medium-size bowl about half-way over the neck hole. Using a water-erasable marking pen, trace along the edge of the bowl. Cut along the outline, making sure to go through the front and back sides of the shirt, in order to create an opening for the bag that's larger than what the neck hole allows.

3. Line up the hems on the front and back side of the sleeve and cut, making sure to go through both sides of the shirt. Repeat on the other sleeve. Tip: A jersey shirt would also work well for this craft, as it is already sleeveless, and it's made of a great mesh material.

ResourcesWater-erasable marking pens can be purchased at most fabric stores for about $5.
