THREE CAN CHILI

It's chili making season.
Our 80 degree days are coming to a screeching halt by the weekend.
I came up with a quick chili recipe that only uses three ingredients.
This is a great recipe to use for a few people or to put on hot dogs and baked potatoes.

Ingredients: (use your favorite brands)
1 can kidney beans
1 can chili with meat
1 can V8 type juice

Place all into a small crockpot. Simmer until ready to eat!

Jack-O-Lanterns!

It's almost Halloween, time to make your Jack-O-Lantern.

I have vivid memories as a child of making Jack-O-Lanterns out of the perfect pumpkins.
Dad would cut out the top, we would scoop out the 'innerds' which were always rather
goopy and gross. Sometimes mom would roast the seeds to enjoy later.

Then we would cut triangles for eyes and a nose, along with a goofy grin.
A candle would be placed inside to give our pumpkin face its glow.
Of course it would always catch on fire!
Wow, have Jack-0-Lanterns come a long way.
Today there are all kinds of patterns to trace for elaborate carvings.
Little LED lighted votive candles are used so no more fried pumpkin.
Or, the pumpkin is decorated without even cutting it, but just adding embellishments.

I was so excited to find that a 'volunteer' pumpkin vine had three large pumpkins.
I kept watching their progress and deciding when to pick 'the perfect' pumpkin.
Sunday morning brought a surprise: a four legged creature had decided to
carve my almost ripe pumpkin.
At first I was sad, but then  found it rather comical.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Wee Acres!

A four legged artist decided
to carve the Great Pumpkin.
All is not lost,
we will save the seeds
to plant next year.

More carvings on the pumpkin.

We decided to move the 'tie-dyed' pumpkin to
safer ground.

Not sure if this will turn completely orange, but it's still a wonderful pumpkin.

Greetings Craftin' with Suz followers:

I apologize for not posting this last week, but we had to readmit my dad to the hospital

Pay Day Candy

Candy Corn has appeared in the stores,
so it is time for Candy Corn and Peanuts!
It has to be Brachs Candy Corn and any brand of peanuts.
Mix equal parts of candy corn and peanuts in a bowl or container.
(Make sure to eat the corn and peanuts together to get the true candy bar taste.)

I made a candy box out of Halloween Paper and filled it with Candy Corn and Peanuts.
I took it to a cookout as a hostess gift.

 Witches Brew--Boo

Happy October--one of my favorite times of the year.
I have fond memories of the kids helping me decorate
the house--inside and out, and preparing for Halloween.
It took weeks to decide on trick or treat costumes.

One tradition they looked forward to each year was "Witches Brew"

A few weeks before Halloween, the Good Witch would begin to 'visit'
and each night secretly leave a treat bag of most interesting goodies.
The next  morning the kids couldn't wait to see what she left.
The treat bag would have hints such as "broom sticks"
which were really pretzel sticks.
On Halloween's Eve, they would try to
guess what each treat was and then open the bags into the
cauldron to make a wonderful mixture of goodies.

The good witch would leave  a treat bag each evening to be discovered the next  morning.  A fun Halloween bowl would work if a cauldron is not available.
Ideas for treat bags:
Tiger Toes: candy corn
Drops of Blood: red m&m's
Broom Sticks: pretzel sticks
Pebbles: peanuts
Green Teeth: green m&m's
Tiny Pumpkins: orange m&m's or candy pumpkins
Mushy Brains: marshmallows

Have fun thinking of more treats
for the Good Witch to leave in the cauldron.

I made each of them their own 'Witches Brew' kits:
I found  collapsible cauldrons along with treat bags at the after Halloween sales and put together ideas so the Good Witch can visit their homes.
The tradition continues!
