Tuesday Tipz

I love making, giving and sending greeting cards.
However, there are some occasions I do not have the time
or materials to create the perfect card.
I also live in a rural area where the closest card shop is many miles away.

I received a free greeting card computer
program with photo paper.
I downloaded it onto my computer to make
'emergency greeting cards'.
This has been a time/life saver.
Free programs are available with purchase.
Card programs can be purchased at the big box store.
Cards can also be printed from online programs.

Granny's Bucket List

Mom mentioned that there were some places
she had never been to--and she had put them on her bucket list.
One was Starbucks--which we visited a few weeks ago.
Another was a consignment shop.
Last week she said she would like a little container
to store her 'bucket list' memories.
I decided to make her one from an empty candy container.
Any type of container would work, but I liked this one
since it was clear. She can see her mementos!
The cup sleeve from Starbucks will be put in first!

Washi Tape decorations.

Recipe Disasters!

Have you had a recipe that looked good on paper but turned out to be a disaster?

Mine was a hot dog, baked bean and cornbread dish.
We had to throw it away and order pizza!
The family still laughs about that meal.

Share your disasters!

Tuesday Tipz

If you have a favorite idea book/catalog, use a book cover,
or clear sticky paper to cover and protect the book.
I take my Stampin'UP! idea book with me if I find I have a few minutes,
so it gets worn and torn from use.
However, covering it helps keep it clean and prevents the 'dog ears'!

Monday Make Itz

Here is a simple and inexpensive light for
a patio table--or any outside area.
Light can be brought inside during a power outage!

Flower pot patio light.

Inexpensive solar light (around $1 at big box stores)
Clay pot with hole in the bottom, make sure light will fit into hole
Duck tape, paints, decoupage, etc to decorate the pot

Materials:solar light, duck tape, clay pot

remove the stake from the bottom of the light

Decorate pot, I used duck tape around the bottom so it wouldn't scratch the table.

Turn pot over, place the light into the hole.

The light makes a nice pattern.

Revisiting Techniques

It's a good idea to review crafting techniques if a
certain one has not been used for awhile.
Also take time to practice the technique.

I realized this as I was making Mom's Day cards.
I wanted to wet emboss the words on the card and found
I needed to practice the technique.
I made a mess with the powder, almost burned the card,
and didn't get all of the embossing powder melted.
So, I practiced on scrap paper until I felt
confident to emboss on the card.

Mason (or canning jars) are all the rage.
The jars come in all size and colors, and can be found
at big box, dollar, and grocery stores.
The jars are an inexpensive base for many craft projects.
If a large quantity will be needed for Holiday gifts ,
it would be a good idea to stock up during garden/canning season.
Supplies are sometimes limited after the summer.

The jars make fun gift 'bags'.
With Mom's Day this Sunday, a jar could be made to hold a gift card,
mom's favorite candy, coffee or other food products.
Ribbon, beads and even stick-on chalkboard paper can be used to decorate the jar.

I've also seen lamps and candle holders made with the jars.
I like to use the little battery operated tea lights.

Think 'outside' the jar!

A simple mason jar can become the base for a great craft project.

Add stick on chalkboard paper, ribbon, beads, etc. to decorate the jar.

Stick the chalkboard paper onto the jar--write contents with a white pen or chalk.

National Scrapbook Day Freebeez

The first Saturday in May is national scrapbook day.
Be sure to check out StampinUp.com, along with your local scrapbook store
for great scrapbooking ideas.
Even if you don't scrapbook, these ideas can be used for other papercrafts.
Some mail order paper craft resources are offering free or discounted shipping tomorrow,
their websites will give you more information.

Scrapbooking is not meant to be Stress-filled, but a Stress Reliever.

Remember, scrapbooks don't have to be time consuming or complicated.
Sometimes simpler is better and less is more.
A pre-made album, a notebook, or even a simple inexpensive album
can be just what you need to tell the story.
Only one rule----JUST HAVE FUN!!!!!
