Thursday Treatz

This is a recipe my mom always made for the summer gatherings!
(Can be enjoyed anytime of the year.)

Summer Baked Beans

This recipe will fill a medium size baking dish.
Adjust as needed for servings.

2 Cans Regular Baked Beans
1/2 cup brown sugar
Chopped onion (optional if you don't like onions)
5-6 slices of bacon, chopped (to save time I use the precooked)
1/4 cup ketchup
splash of worchestshire sauce

1.  If bacon isn't cooked, fry with the chopped onion. Drain, but not too much.

2. Mix all ingredients in an oven proof dish.

3. Bake at 350degrees for at least 45 minutes.

4. I have also made these in a crock pot on low for most of a day. Can serve right out of crockpot.

Tennessee's Tax Free Weekend has been moved to the last weekend in July instead of the first
weekend in August since schools start early here.
Many art and school supply type products in the StampinUp catalog comply with the rules.
Start your shopping list now!
Remember--you can never have too many coloring tools or craft supplies!

Tennessee tax-free weekend moves up to last weekend of July

Tuesday Tipz

Happy Summer Organizing!

Tennessee has already seen record heat this summer.
It is too hot to be outside during the heat/humidity of the day,
so the craft room has gotten some much needed cleaning.
If it is too hot to be outside in your area, take this indoor time to purge and organize.
Then, when the heat breaks enough for porchin' and patio time,
all of the projects will be ready to use!

Also, keep a go-to bag of coloring books and colors ready to take on quick last minute trips.

Water Bottle Holder Made from Plastic Bags

The local library had a free class on how to crochet a tote from
plastic shopping bags.
(Mine seem to multiply when the lights go out.!)
The project was a water bottle holder,
but could be tweeked to be a water bottle coaster.
The most time consuming part was making the 'yarn' out of the bags.
We cut one inch strips from the bags then attached them together,
then rolled into a ball of plastic yarn.
There are many tutorials and videos that will show this process.
Google crochet shopping bag totes.

More Fun With Hen and Chicken Plants
(Inexpensive outdoor planters)

My yard seems to have the perfect conditions for growing hen and chicken plants.
Since they thrive on neglect, I can actually keep them alive.
Mine are multiplying all over the place, so I decided to move a few to
the front of the house.  I filled concrete blocks with potting soil. I added a few plants
to each hole. Don't overfill since they quickly grow and spread.
I put two blocks on each side of the area leading to the front door.
I placed a solar light at the end of each set.

Potting soil filled blocks.

Gently pull apart 'babies', place long root into the soil, water.
