Crochet Circle Scrubbies

Since the new year, I have been spending a lot of time
in waiting rooms for one reason or another.
This is a portable crochet pattern
to while away the time.
These are great little gifts to hand out.
Any I have given away are appreciated, never had one turned down.
I also found a fun new yarn from Redheart call Scrubby.
It has fun little nubs in the yarn.
This can be found at Hobby Lobby and Walmart.
I like to use the Scrubby Sparkle with the cotton yarn.
I have also made two sided projects--one side cotton yarn, the other side scrubby yarn.
This would be great for a shower or bath scrubby.
The nubs also makes it a perfect project for a veggie scrubber.
This fast and easy project is  from the Redheart web site.
Tip--before I snip off the yarn, I crochet a chain to make a loop to hang for drying.

"Walking with Giants"

The family introduced me to a fun,
and rather addictive U-tube series.
A man cooks real miniature meals on
a miniature old fashioned cast iron stove.

( I was recently gifted a miniature stove just like this one!)

Having a Happy Birthday!

Craftin' with Suz is enjoying her January birthday today.
The celebration started over the weekend with a trip to Southern Illinois to spoil our youngest
grand Morgan. He (with a little help from his parental units) surprised me with a
fun pink birthday cake!

Happy Birthday Oma Cake

I also enjoyed the meatloaf lunch special at Cracker Barrel as
we were able to get there this year since the weather has been so mild.
(Last year we had a 3 day ice storm that kept us from driving down our lane and road
to the highway!)
Along with phone calls, cards, gifts, FB well wishes, Facetime,
it has been a lovely 61st anniversary of my trips around the sun.

Now to enjoy some craftin' time!

Rainy day kit idea from Fiskars.

When mine were growing up, I always had a 'kit' of
craft supplies to pull out on snow and/or rainy days.
Fiskars has a neat idea for a 'bad' weather day kit.
Use any box or tote around the house, maybe there was
a good one leftover from a Christmas gift!
This can be put together on a 'shoe' string, just shop your
stash, check out the after holiday sales, use coupons for school supplies,
and always walk down the clearance aisle.
Stock up on glue and pencils at the back to school sales,
and the January restock the school supplies sales.
I recently found Holiday crafting supplies for as little as 5cents!
I'm now starting a kit for the grand-girls, and will
make one for the grand-boys when they are older.

Have fun filling your box!

All they need to add:
creativity and imagination!

Thursday Treatz

Here is a 3 ingredient recipe
Mom would make with the leftover chunks of the holiday ham.
It's great on bread or crackers!(or just by itself)

Ground Ham (grind it from leftover ham)
Mayonnaise (Mom uses Hellman's)
Pickle Relish(any brand)

Hard to give exact amounts of mayo and relish.
Mom likes a lot;me,  not so much.
I put the ham in a bowl then start adding mayo and relish to taste.
Cover and chill, then taste again.
More mayo and/or relish may need to be added.

Keep refrigerated or freeze.
The ground ham can also be frozen to use at a later date,
just add the mayo and relish when defrosted.

 2017--The Year of Kindness

A member of my gal pal group kindly gifted us all a small pocket calendar
complete with all of our birthday's filled in.
I have decided to use this calendar as my
"Random Acts of Kindness"journal.
Each day I write in one thing I have done, whether it be to smile
at a stranger, hold a door, send a card, or call someone just to say hi.
I'm not writing down these acts to 'pat' myself on the back,
but to relive how good it feels to connect with others, even for a moment.

Please join me in making 2017 the year of kindness,
and spreading a little cheer throughout the year.

A Happy Crafty Holiday!

Tennessee had a somewhat rare weekend of snow and cold. It started on Friday with below freezing temps keeping us all inside for the weekend. To beat cabin fever, I worked on a few projects, continued to put the Holidays away, and wrapped more gifts.  We are kind of doing Christmas in shifts this year, so I didn't have to have it all done in one day.

I made, and received some very nice Handcrafted gifts.
I knitted over 20 dish/washcloths--I stocked up on yarn so I can get
an earlier start for next year! (See an earlier post for instructions.)
This is a quick project to keep in the car to work
on long trips and in between errands.
I also found a neat new yarn called Red Heart Scrubby with
nubbies to make scrubbies. More info and a pattern to be posted soon.

Snow days are the best time to start planning next year's
handmade gifts. Look over your stash to see what is needed--
the supplies may be on the clearance table at your local craft stores.
