An Old Family Favorite: Mostacholli

Here is a great recipe my sister posted on her blog--the Whimsey Project.
click here to check out the blog.
Since I'm the crock pot queen--I would probably let this
cook all day in a crock pot. This would help tenderize the meat.

mostacholli recipe:

one to two pounds round steak, browned, cut into bite sized pieces (today weight was 1.75 lb)

saute the following in pan used to brown meat:
2 cups chopped celery
2 cups chopped green pepper
1/2 onion

add:
one large can of crushed tomatoes
1/2 tomato can of water (up to full can of water depending on consistency desired)
1 tablespoon chili powder
return cut up steak to the pan
cook until meat is tender and flavors blended. (cook on simmer for several hours)

during last 15 minutes of cooking:
add small can of mushrooms, liquid and all.

serve over noodles.

want more mostacholli? double the recipe.
as mom tells me, this is not a recipe a person cooking can ruin. go with it.  and change it up to suit personal taste! less celery, more green pepper, no mushrooms or more mushrooms. enjoy!

Tuesday Tipz

Just saw a great tip online:

Credit goes to Lind Gariepy-Steed at All About Coloring Supplies.
Use an old utensil carousel for coloring materials.
If you do not have one,
look at a nearby resale shop or yard sale.
The different compartments can hold pens, pencils, markers, etc.

BREAD TAGS

My coloring tool cases all look alike.
I was trying to figure out how to keep them apart.
I had an 'AHA' moment when I saw the white plastic
bread tag closer.

I labeled each one with a sharpie,
then hung the tag on the zipper closure!

PERFECT!!

Thursday Treatz

Here is a two ingredient recipe from the Dollar Tree Blog.
I personally have not tried this yet,but plan to use an Angel food mix when I do.
I also would probably sprinkle powdered sugar on top!
(Ok, that would make it three ingredients, but who is counting when it is
this delicious! )

Lemon Bites Dessert Recipe for Your Next PartyShared by Dollar Tree’s Value Seekers Club®! Want more ideas like this? Join the Club >
What’s better than a recipe with only two ingredients? How about a recipe with two ingredients that only costs $1 each? These delicious lemon bites are super simple to make and are great for taking to parties and events. Just one taste and your friends and neighbors will be convinced that you spent hours in the kitchen. Don’t worry… the ease and affordability of these tangy, moist cakes will be our little secret!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • Vanilla or Angel Food Cake Mix
  • Can of Lemon Pie Filling
  • Baking Pan
  • Cooking Spray or Oil
Easy Step-by-Step Directions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°.
  2. Use the cooking spray to grease the inside of the pan.
  3. Fold together the cake mix and the lemon pie filling. This will create an almost dough-like consistency.
  4. Spread the thick batter evenly into the pan.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes. When done, the cake will have an airy but sticky consistency, and will spring back when gently pressed with a finger.
  6. Allow the cake to cool, then cut into 1-2″ squares.
  7. Top with powdered sugar or ice cream and they’re ready to serve!

Remember this fun plastic? It is making a comeback.
Create a project on flimsy plastic, heat it and
it becomes smaller and thicker.

Here is a great project using this plastic-
hand/feet print key chains.
This idea could also be used for paw prints.
