Kids love playing with sand and dirt outside, but as parents, we don’t always love the messy cleanup. Check out this easy and fun alternative idea that you and your kids will love… mix together a few kitchen ingredients to make your own moon sand! It has a similar texture to playing with wet sand at the beach, without the sticky effect. Moon sand clumps together easily for fun molding and scooping, and wipes clean with minimal mess!
Made from flour, food dye, and canola oil, mix this up with your kids in just a few minutes. Let them get their hands “dirty” making the moon sand in their favorite colors. Load up a container with the moon sand and fill it with toys, trucks, molds, shovels, and buckets to make shapes and dig holes. Play indoors on rainy days or outside on your deck on sunny days.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
4 Cups White Flour
½ Cup Canola Oil
Bowls (One Per Color)
Large Container or Cake Pan
Optional: Plastic Sand Molds and Toys
Easy Step-by-Step Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and canola oil using your hands.
Separate the moon sand into different bowls. Add a few drops of food dye to each bowl, one color per bowl, to achieve your desired colors.
Then, add all of the sand into a large container or cake pan.
Add in plastic sand molds, toy trucks, cars, shovels, and more for an afternoon of fun!
