Wednesday Websitz

Delivered to your door!!!!

I truly try to shop local--but being in a very remote
and rural area, it is sometimes difficult to get the supplies that I need.

Many brick and mortar stores now have a strong online presence.

The Sam'sClub PLUS membership now includes FREE shipping
with many of the items. Same price as in store along with the products
in the savings booklets. Even though this membership costs more,
it is worth the price of gas and time it takes to go to the nearest store,
which is quite a drive from here.
Cold or frozen items cannot be shipped, but how awesome is it to
get mega rolls of tissue delivered right to the door!

(Tip--a membership makes an awesome year round gift!)

Thursday Treatz has a section of recipes.
Credit goes to this website for this recipe.
Here is a quick and easy one to make for
breakfasts on the go.
Cocoa could probably
be substituted for the coffee.
Peanut butter could be substituted for the almond butter.
I have not tried this recipe yet.

No Bake Coffee Banana Energy Bites

These quick and easy treats are the perfect pick-me-up on the go.

No Bake Coffee Banana Energy Bites

1 banana, about ½ cup
2 ½ cups Millville Old Fashioned Oats
2 tablespoons SimplyNature Organic Wildflower Honey
½ cup SimplyNature Creamy Almond Butter
4 tablespoons Specially SelectedPremium Roasted Regular Coffee, grounds
½ cup Baker’s Corner Semi-Sweet Mini Morsels
¼ teaspoon Stonemill Essentials Ground Cinnamon
  1. In a medium bowl, mash banana until no lumps remain and it resembles a liquid.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients. Mix until well blended. Refrigerate for 5 minutes.
  3. Form into 24 portions, roll into uniform balls.  Refrigerate for an additional 20 minutes to set.
  4. Keep refrigerated for up to 1 week.

Tuesday Tipz

Check out the Google Olympic
Animation for a fun way to start your day.

A fun animation has been posted
each day of the Olympics.
"Google" the ones you have missed.

Fun memory--my elderly mom used
to ask me to use that little 'thing' of mine (I-pad) to
'Google' who was in a old movie she was
watching! Turner Classic Movies was her fav!

More Help for Seniors!
(With items from dollar stores)

Here are a few more ideas to help seniors (or anyone with health issues)
live a more independent life.

One problem that people may have is
scrubbing in the shower without bending over.
This may require a long handled instrument.

These are rather expensive at the
medical supply store, but one can
be inexpensively made with items from the dollar store.

Back scratcher/ shoe horn
Extended length shoe horn
Long handled scrubby
Duck Tape

look for these in the shoe and shower sections of the stores

Duck tape handles together for a long reach scrubby
If long shoe horn isn't available, use the 'hand' end of the back scratcher.

Blissful Scenes - Winter

Tuesday Tipz

Tomorrow begins Lent.
Instead of 'giving' up or 'doing' without,
consider giving or doing!

Some ideas include--

1. With high heating bills this winter, some families
find it difficult to pay for school lunches--give a donation
to be used to offset these costs.

2. Take personal care items to nursing homes, schools, a food pantry.
Watch for sales/good coupons to purchase. Or visit the dollar store for good deals.

3. Donate gently used clothing to schools, most have a program
to give to students in need--middle and high schools always need
    adult sized clothing.

4. Pick up new socks and underwear, donate to schools.

5. Buy a case of peanut butter, donate to the school weekend back pack

6. Take time to send a card or make a visit to the nursing home.

7. Take old blankets or towels to the local animal shelter.
Purchase a bag of animal food/treats and donate.

 8. Find a local charity to support.

Thursday Treatz

The ingredients are just suggestions,
add or subtract to taste.
This could also be changed to chix rice soup.

Any kind of cut up cooked poultry--chicken, turkey etc.
(A roasted chicken from the grocery could even be used.
Sometimes I even use a mixture of different kinds if making a large batch.)

Dried or fresh onion, to taste.

Dried or cut up fresh carrot.

Cut up fresh celery.

Dried or cut up 'taters.

2 cans or large carton of chicken broth.

Egg noodles to add later.

Peas to add later.

Salt, pepper, parsley to taste

Add all ingredients to crock pot--add water if necessary.

Cook on high for an hour or two, then turn down to low.

Simmer all day.

About any hour before eating,  add noodles and peas, cook until tender.

Tuesday Tipz

Hang in there!

Even though the Groundhog saw it's shadow
predicting six more weeks of winter--
there are signs that spring can't be far behind.

The days stay lighter longer
and the robins are back!

So get your favorite  hot beverage,
a good book, or your craft project,
and enjoy the last few weeks of cozy inside time.

Monday Make Itz

   (made from a pre-made tote)

Project number 2 for Seniors!

Walker Carry All
Pre-made Canvas totes (or free giveaway totes)
(Some craft and big box stores carry these in the craft or fabric paint aisle. )
Heavy Duty Velcro with sticky on back.

1. Cut off one of the handles close to the seam.
A hefty pair of scissors will be needed if using canvas.
2. Cut the other handle in the middle of the loop--this will make the two loops to fold over
and hold the tote to the walker.
Cut the remaining handle at the top of the loop.
3. Place the sticky velcro so it will make 2 strong loops to attach to walker.
Some velcro glue will be strong enough to hold heavier objects, but go over velcro
with a few rows of machine stitching to make sure. The sticky will help hold velcro in place.
If no machine is available, just be sure to get the heavy duty sticky strips.

Pre glued velcro

4. These can be decorated with fabric pens.

5. Attach to walker.

Caution that this won't carry heavy objects such as heavy books or computers, but for everyday needs such as kleenex, personal needs, etc., it is great!
