THE MIDDLE--An End of An Era

A long time ago, an underappreciated SitCom
founds it way to the ABC station line up.
It was a show about a family living in the middle of the country,
in the middle of life, with three kids, so there was a middle child.
There was also something with the family that most people could relate to.

Last evening was the last episode.
This was bittersweet, as it was time to let the characters move on,
but it was also like losing a beloved friend or family member,
or perhaps more like a Graduation.

The show is now in syndication and can be found
on the The Hallmark Channel,ABC.com,  along with online streaming.
If you haven't met the Heck family, find time to binge watch some of
the seasons for an up and down emotional rollercoaster.

Monday Make Itz

(depending on the area of the country)

It's always amazing to look out and see that the lightning bugs
have returned to Tennessee.
There are thousands of the blinks
in the darkness throughout the fields.

This always catches me by surprise,
and I never grow tired of the fabulous light show.

There is an area in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park
where the bugs flicker in unison.
Even though attending is now chosen through a lottery,
it is still on my bucket to someday attend this show.

So, make a memory with a new little person
who has never seen such wonder.
Remember a memory and just sit in awe of nature.
Travel to an area to watch the bugs.
Enjoy this fleeting moment now,
until the bugs return next summer.

Tuesday Tipz

1. Paper quality has an impact on how smooth different coloring utensils work.
For example, I tried to use Sharpies in a coloring book without much success.
Therefore, I  felt that these pens were inferior to color with.
When I tried them in a book with quality paper such as ColorIt brand,
the color lay down was much smoother.
The ultra fine point pens work great in small areas.
These pens are a great inexpensive way to add to your color collection.

2. Some pictures to color can be a bit confusing.
It often helps to turn the picture upside down to figure out what a shape is.
This also works on puzzle books such as find the object and find the differences.

How to Make Someone feel like a Million Bucks for a $1.00.

Send a card!
There is nothing like going to the mailbox
and getting mail that isn't a bill or advertisement.

The dollar stores have American Greeting
cards--some only 50cents.
Stick on a  50 cent stamp and you
have a wonderful gift for a $1.00.

Add embellishments from your stash,
along with a handwritten note,
to make the card more personal.
It's like a sending a hug through the mail!

Sausage Skillet Dinner

(This is a very versatile and quick meal. Use whatever veggies are in season.)

1 package smoked sausage, cut into bite size pieces
1 cup rice, cooked. (I like to use the brown rice mix)
1 green (or other color) pepper, diced or cut into strips
1 med. onion, cut into chunks--optional
1/2 cup dried tomato, or 1 small can tomato sauce, or a fresh 'mater
1 can chicken broth
1 cup broccoli
1 clove garlic, or garlic salt
cheese to sprinkle on top

1. Saute the onion and garlic in a small amount of olive oil in a large skillet
2. Add peppers and cook for a bit
3. Pour in chicken broth, bring to a boil
4. Add all other ingredients, turn down to simmer
5. Cook until heated through and the veggies are done to taste, some like the veggies crispier
6. Serve with cheese on top

Tuesday Tipz

When designing a garden, be sure to
add some fun and unexpected elements.
Pops of color and fun ornaments will
add interest to the different garden areas.

Yesterday I heard a knock on the front door:

My daughter and her family sent these interesting characters to live
in the updated rock garden--complete with pet flamingos!
These are my very first gnomes!
(I just hope they behave themselves and don't get into too much mischief,
especially since they are gnomes on vacation!)

It didn't take these fellas long to make themselves at home in the garden.
They found a perfect spot to party on!

Stay tuned for more whimsical additions to the garden!

Progress continues with the backyard landscaping.
The old  flower beds have been taken out.
The dirt has been leveled and grass seed has been sown.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's post to meet some fun characters
who now live in the rock garden.

Tuesday Tipz

Here is a great gardening tip from a loyal reader:

"Here's a tip I found in a magazine: cut an empty toilet paper roll in half, set it upright in a tray, fill with dirt, and use it as a seed starter.  When time to plant outdoors, you can put the whole thing in the ground."
