KITCHEN TIPZ

A loyal reader shared the following list:

Chop strawberries (and other soft fruit) with an egg slicer.
Quick frozen meat defrost: place meat in a plastic bag, then put it on top of an upside-down aluminum pot. Fill another pot with room-temperature water and set it on the meat. In five to ten minutes your meat will be defrosted (because the metal conducts the heat).
Use an apple cutter to slice potatoes to bake as wedges.
Pie crust: grate a stick of frozen butter then toss the shreds with the flour instead of cutting the butter into the flour.
Clean your blender: fill it one-third with warm water & add a few drops of dishwashing liquid, run for 10 seconds. Rinse and dry.
If your baked cake falls apart: make a trifle. Layer cake pieces with fresh whipped cream and fruit in a pretty glass bowl.
Cut corn off the cob by setting it upright on the hole of a Bundt pan and slicing downward along the side. The corn and juices collect in the pan.
Fill a turkey baster with pancake batter and squeeze out custom shapes on the griddle. Color your shapes by applying layers, such as: draw the outline of an autumn leaf, let it brown before filling the rest of the leaf with batter.

    Another for cutting corn off the cob. If a bundt pan is not available, place a small bowl (ramekin, etc) upside down in a casserole dish or other dish with low sides. Hold the corn on the ramekin and slice away!
