Thursday Treatz

Tennessee is getting an early and rare snow day.
Good day to watch it snow and drink a cup of Hot Chocolate,
or  Hot Cocoa as we called it growing up.
Here is an easy one cup at a time recipe from the
Hershey Cocoa website.
It reminds me of the treat mom would make for us
after a day of sledding on the nearby hills.
Snow days didn't happen often in Tennessee,
so we enjoyed each one that we did get.
I have vivid memories of the cocoa in the mid-sized
saucepan simmering on the stove.
This was the time before instant packets of hot chocolate.
Marshmallows would make it an even more special treat.

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • Dash salt
Powered by Chicory

  • Mix sugar, cocoa and salt in large mug.

  • Gradually add hot milk to cocoa mixture in mug, stirring until well blended.
  • Stir in vanilla. 1 serving.
  • Rich and Adult: Increase cocoa to 2 tablespoons; follow recipe above.
  • Lower Fat: Use nonfat milk; follow recipe above.
  • Sugar Free: Omit sugar. Combine cocoa and salt. Proceed as above, using nonfat milk. Stir in vanilla and sugar substitute with sweetening equivalence of 2 tablespoons sugar.
